John Menchia is O’Donnells 8 Week Tournament winner

John Menchia Gallagher is the winner of the inaugural O’Donnells Bar 8 Week Tournament following a wonderful display of darts on the night in front of a packed O’Donnells on Friday night. John who was week 1 winner beat week 2 winner John Ward 6-2, Ward took the opening leg with the help of two 140s, Menchia won the next five legs with a 120 and 78 finishes and a 180 a brilliant finish on double 19 kept Ward in the game to make it 5-2 but with the help of a 180 he took the eighth leg to secure the title. John Ward had the highest checkout of the night a 148 in his opening match of the evening. In the semi-finals Menchia had a battle with Kieran Gallagher, Kieran had a 118 checkout in the opening leg, Menchia finished 136 to level, Kieran went 2-1 up with 140 and 134 scores Menchia replied with two 140s to make it 2-2. A 180 in the next leg put him ahead for the first time and he made no mistake winning the next two to win including a brilliant 135 (25 treble 20 bull) finish to win. While in the other semi-final John Ward overcame Andrew Gillespie 5-2, Andrew took the first leg but never got going to cause Ward any problems. In the first round Menchia beat Raymond Hegarty who was a late replacement for Michael Curran who could not make it due to work commitments 4-0, Menchia had a 180, Andrew Gillespie beat Adrian Byrne 4-2, John Ward beat Declan Quinn in a brilliant match where John had a 118 finish and 148 to win with Declan on a double. While Kieran Gallagher put in a great game of darts to beat John Con McGinley 4-2. Thanks to the many players who entered over the 8 weeks where we seen so many great games of darts and to all who marked games and helped out in any way.

Week 8

Week Eight

John Con McGinley is the eighth and final qualifier following a 3-0win over John Murray in the final, highest checkout was to Dylan Curran who had a 120 finish. In the semis John Con beat Adie Sommers and Murray beat Kieran Carr while in the quarter finals John Con beat John McHugh 3-0, John Murray overcame county teammate Jordan Boyce 3-2, Adie beat Eoin Murray 3-0 and Kieran beat Noel McGinley 3-0.

Week Seven

Adrian Byrne who has been at all seven weeks of the event is winner number seven following a 3-0 win over John McHugh he hit a 180 in leg three, in the semis he overcame Martin Barr 3-2 while John beat James Byrne 3-2. In the last eight Adrian beat Ryan McBrearty 3-0, John beat Dylan Curran 3-1, Martin beat JP Byrne 3-1 while James beat Daniel Meehan 3-1. In the opening round James beat John Con McGinley 3-0 he hit a 180 and had the highest checkout of the night of 94,  Martin Barr beat David Gillespie 3-0, John beat Joe Prancske 3-1 while Ryan McBrearty beat Phelim McGill 3-1.

Week Six

Kieran Gallagher is player number six in the finals he defeated Adrian Byrne 3-0 win the final he hit a 120 check out in the second leg. Cartha Boyle had the highest checkout of the night with a 141 in his semi final defeat to Kieran while Adrian beat James Byrne 3-2. In the last eight Kieran beat Adie Somers 3-1, Adrian beat Kieran Carr 3-2, Chartha beat Liam Donegan 3-2 while James beat Domcan 3-0.

Michael Curran rolled back the years to clinch round five following a 3-1 win over Raymond Hegarty he also hit the highest checkout of the night with a 110. In the semis Michael beat Liam Melly 3-0 while Raymond beat James Byrne 3-1. In the quarters Michael beat Liam Donegan 3-1, Raymond beat Dan Meehan 3-1, Liam beat Christopher Molloy 3-1 while James beat Cartha Boyle also 3-1

Andrew Gillespie is the fourth player trough to the finals night following a 3-0 win over Kieran Gallagher, he defeated Liam Donegan 3-0 in the semis while in the quarter finals he beat Adrian Byrne 3-1 and in the first match he beat Michael Curran 3-1. Kieran beat John McHugh 3-0 in the semis and James Byrne in the quarters, highest checkout of the night was a 117 by John McHugh.

Highest Checkout: Raymond Hegarty 110

Declan Quinn is the third player trough to the knockout stages of the singles, the Glenties man who was called up to the county team last year beat fellow Glenties thrower Cartha Boyle 3-0 in the final, Declan had a hard fought 3-2 win over Andrew Gillespie in the semis while Cartha beat James Byrne 3-1 in the other semi. In the quarters Declan beat Ady Somers 3-1, Cartha beat Raymond Hegarty 3-2, Andrew beat Kieran Gallagher 3-0 where he had a 92 checkout while James beat his brother Adrian 3-1. Highest checkout was a 110 from Raymond Hegerty in his first round win over Liam Donegan. We reach the half way stage this Friday the standard has been very high so far and getting better by the week!

Highest Checkout: Raymond Hegarty 140

John Ward from Bundoran won week two of the O’Donnell’s eight week tournament, John who has been off the darts scene this past number of years showed glimpses of the form that made him one of the top players in Ireland in the 2000s we had 16 entry’s this week. He defeated Raymond Hegarty 3-1 in the final he went 2-0 finishing the second leg in 14 darts, Raymond won the third leg he had darts to make it 2-2 but did not take them so John joins John Menchia in the finals.

 

In the semi-finals John beat Stephen Reed 3-1 he had a 14 dart leg (missed darts for an 11 darter) and had a 180, while Raymond Hegarty beat week one runner up Adrian Byrne 3-0 he had the highest checkout of the evening 140 in the win. In the quarter finals John had a tough battle with Andrew Gillespie winning 3-2, Raymond beat Jess McCormack 3-0, Adrian beat Christopher Molloy 3-1 and Stephen won 3-1 against John McHugh. In the first round John Ward beat James Byrne 3-0, James had a 180, Andrew Gillespie hit a 137 check out against Jamesie Boyle, John McHugh beat Phelim McGill 3-0, Stephen Reed beat Rory O’Donnell also 3-0, Jess McCormack beat Kevin Mulhern 3-2, Raymond Hegarty won 3-0 against Kieran Gallagher, Adrian Byrne beat Liam Melly 3-0 and Christopher Molloy beat Cara Boyle 3-2.
