Biddy’s 4 McIntires 3
Biddy’s are the 2009 SWDDL Knockout Cup champions following a 4-3 win over holders McIntires in a very exciting match in The Bridge Bar last Sunday evening.
In the first match of the night Dermot McGuire went 2-0 up against Brendan White, Dermot hit 180 in the second leg, Brendan then won three in a row to go 3-2 up, Dermot made it 3-3 and with Brendan on a double to win Dermot took out 94 to put Biddy’s one up.
Emmett Quigley squared it up for McIntires with a 4-1 win over Colin McNelis, Emmett went 3-0 up before Colin pulled one back, Emmett had a 107 check out in this set. Mike Naulty put McIntires into the lead with a 4-1 win over Michael Byrne, Mike went 2-0 up, Michael won the third leg but Mike made no mistake and won the next two legs.
The best performance of the night came from John Con McGinley in the next match against Declan Cunningham John went 2-0 up with 145 and 68 checkouts before Declan pulled one back. A 180 helped John to go 3-1 up and in the final leg John took out a 170 finish to win the match 4-1 and to tie the game up at 2-2. The next two matches were shared with Niall Cunningham beating Francie Gillespie 4-0 for McIntires and Kieran Carr played some good steady darts to beat Richie Cunningham 4-0 also.
In the deciding match Kevin Squires took on Keith Murray, Keith raced into a 2-0 lead before Kevin made it 3-2, both players hit 140’s in the sixth leg Keith had chances to tie the set up but it was Kevin who held his nerve to hit double 5 to clinch the match for the Cashel side.
Both these side meet again this Saturday in the shield final in Roartys and one side is going to be double champions this season and if the cup final is anything to go by it should be an exciting match!
