The Slieve League darts team travelled to the Hollybush for the 2004 Knockout cupfinal and after one of the most trilling finals in recent years they captured the knockout cup for the first time ever.
In the first match Raymond Hegerty put the away side one nil up with a 3-0 win over Declan Herity, Irwin Muirhead levelled things up with a 3-1 win over Gabriel O’Neill.
Andrew Gillespie put the away side back in front with a 3-0 win over Alan McBrearty, Philip Gallagher made it 2-2 defeating Adrian Hamilton 3-0 with the best performance of the night by Philip.
Gerry McBrearty took the fifth set beating John Gallagher 3-1 to leave the home side one set away from capturing the cup. David Spot Gallagher was next up for the home side playing Adrian Byrne, this match went down to the wire with Spot having chances to clinch the match but Adrian scraped trough to make it 3-3.
Last match of the night was Bernie Mullen for the home side playing James Byrne, James went 2-0 up but Bernie fought back to level things up to force a deciding leg. Both players got down to a finish but it was James who hit double 16 with his first dart to take the cup to the delight of the Carrick side and supporters.
