It was 20 year ago in December past that Leo Molloy left us to soon so to mark that anniversary it would be great to see his old teammates, opponents etc at this year’s event. Since 2000 we have seen some of the biggest names in darts travel to Kilcar to play in the Leo Molloy Memorial Darts Tournament, Leo who was the first manager to manage Donegal to an All-Ireland title in 1998 Leo was well liked and respected in the world of darts and was heavily involved in the South West area with reforming the league in the early 1990s and helping to run tournaments including the famous Norman Blaine Competition which was one of the biggest in Ireland at the time, but he was sadly taken at a young age and this tournament is a fitting tribute to him as we prepare for the 19th hosting of this tournament .

PDC star Brendan Dolan has won this tournament four times while ex BDO player Martin McCloskey has won it three times, next on the list is John Menchia Gallagher. This year’s tournament promises to be one of the most competitive ever with the rise in talented youth players in the area mixed with players from the North West and beyond it promises to be a great day of darts.

Heading into the final few matches of the league O’Donnell’s and Kilcar House moved to within two points of the top after two good wins and both sides have to meet as their match from a few weeks ago was postponed that match will have a gig bearing as to where the league title is heading. Evelyn’s remain top following a 6-1 win against The Rusty B who picked up only their second point of the season.

Best of luck to Donegal Men’s at the All Irelands in Ennis this weekend and special mention to our league players Andrew and Meencha in the competition.

We are almost at the halfway stage in what’s turning out to be one of the most competitive leagues we have seen in a long time with the top 5 all in contention and so far all games involving the top 5 teams have ended in 4-3 results that how close it is. Kilcar House ended Evelyn’s unbeaten start with Adrian Byrne finishing a 161 for Evelyn’s, Kenneth Kennedy won the two pointer, The Rusty made it 3 wins in a row with a good 4-3 win in John Eoinín’s with Liam Donegan wining the two pointer in the final match while Hugh Doherty had a 116 checkout,  while The Rusty B are still looking for their first points of the season and were again unlucky not to get something from their match against O’Donnell’s. round 5 takes place on January 11th with Evelyn’s hosting O’Donnell’s, Kilcar House at home to John Eoinín’s and the battle of the Rusty part two takes place!
