Kilcar House 4 O’Donnell’s 1
Kilcar House added the Shield to their Knockout cup win a few weeks ago following a 4-1 victory over League champions O’Donnell’s in John Eoinins on Saturday night, Raymond Hegarty and Roger McShane won the first doubles of the night with a 2-0 win over John Gallagher and Josie Gillespie, Raymond finished both matches with a double seven and double five finishes. Kenneth Kennedy and James Byrne made it 2-0 with a 2-1 win against Andrew Gillespie and Jamesie Boyle, Kenneth won the opening leg with a tops checkout, Andrew made it 1-1 also on tops and in the deciding leg it was Ken with a double five checkout that gave the Kilcar side a big advantage going into the singles.
O’Donnell’s took the opening singles match after Andrew Gillespie defeated Roger McShane 3-1, he finished on double eight in the first leg, Roger finished tops to make it 1-1 before Andrew with double ten and double tops secured the match. James Byrne won the fourth match of the night with a 3-1 win over Jamesie Boyle, he took out tops in the first leg, Jamesie had a 97 finish to make it 1-1 James won the next two legs with double sixteen and tops checkouts. The final match of the evening was that of two of the best players in the league Kenneth Kennedy and John Menchia Gallagher these lads played a memorable match in the cup final but this match did not reach those high standards, Kenneth took the opening two legs with double ten and double five finishes John got a leg back finishing 79 on tops but it was Ken who secured the shield for Kilcar House for the seventh time taking out double four. Kenneth also won player of the year remaining unbeaten throughout, Johns only defeats this season were at the hands of Kenneth while Ken also had the least darts leg of 11 darts and John had the most 180s, Kieran Gallagher of The Bridge Bar had the highest checkout of 146 which was against Kenneth Kennedy that was Kieran’s only defeat of the season.
Thanks to John Eoinins for hosting the final and for the food and hospitality on the night, thanks to Jason and the lads who chalked and called the matches and to all who helped out on the night. Over all thanks to all the teams who entered this season only for you there would be no league, thanks to all the publicans, players, supporters and to fellow committee members Jason Cunnea, John Gallagher and John McHugh for their work over the season. We hope to build on this season as all players who entered enjoyed the matches and craic so hopefully we will get a few more teams back next season.
