O’Donnell’s clinch B Cup in a 5-4 thriller!
O’Donnell’s are the B cup champions for the third time following this hard fought win over The Glenhead in the curtain raiser to the league final in The Cope House. Rory’s won the first two doubles with Andrew Gillespie/David Kennedy beating Jason Cunnea/Jamie McNern 2-0 with David finishing the two legs on double ten. Josie Gillespie/Jamesie Boyle beat Barr Carr and Ryan McNern 2-1, Josie finished double three and tops while Barry took out double seven in the first leg. Hugh Doherty/Kenneth Byrne had a 2-0 win over John Gallagher/Damien McBrearty double four and double two checkouts by Hugh put the Glenhead on the board.
Andrew Gillespie had a hard fought win over Ryan McNern who came from 2-0 down in a very entertaining match, 118 and double eight checkouts put Andrew 2-0 the first in 15 darts up but 58 and double four checkouts forced a deciding match and Andrew took out on tops to win it, Ryan missed darts to tie up the match. Barry Carr won the next match for the Cashel side with a 3-1 win against Damien McBrearty, double six, eight and four where the checkouts for Barry while tops was Damien’s finish. On paper the next game was billed the match of the night and did not disappoint with John Gallagher beating Hugh Doherty 3-1, Hugh won the first with a 72 checkout but some great darts in the next legs won the match for Menchia, double eight, four and 97 checkouts and a 17 dart final leg put O’Donnell’s 4-2 up.
Jason Cunnea started the Glenhead comeback with a 3-0 win over Josie Gillespie, two double two and a double ten finish sealed a steady performance by Jason. Jamie McNern set up a deciding match who he also had a 3-0 win his opponent was David Kennedy, double seven, two and tops where his finishes. In the winner takes all match Jamesie Boyle was the match winner with a 3-2 win against Kenneth Byrne in a match that could have went either way, Kenneth won the first leg on double fourteen, Boyle made it 1-1 with a double eight, a 180 helped Kenneth to win the third leg with Jamesie tying it up with a double fifteen followed by a double eight to seal the win for O’Donnell’s in a very entertaining match!
